Bassim Al Shaker is an Iraqi-American artist based in Chicago, USA. Born in Baghdad during a period of intense political conflict and humanitarian turmoil, Al Shaker’s abstract paintings depict his personal experiences during various periods of tumult in the country. Academically trained in painting and drawing at the University of Baghdad College of Fine Arts before receiving an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Al Shaker’s skillfully rendered, emotive paintings refer to his upbringing while celebrating survival and new beginnings. For Four Minutes, Al Shaker will exhibit a suite of new paintings speaking to his Iraqi heritage while remaining universally compelling in their beauty and ability to evoke an emotional response.
